So, one of the polishes I picked up recently reminded me a bit of Orly’s Halley’s Comet. What they have in common is that they’re both super-sparkly ocean greens (or blues).
Other than that, the Orly is way more complex with it’s turquoise base and greenish flecks of foil.
Have a look at them on the nail:
Index and ring — Gio No 99; middle and pinky — Orly Halley’s Comet
And in the same order in natural light on an overcast day. High ISO, so pretty grainy and doesn’t show the sparkle, but gives a good idea of the colour differences.
As you can see, they have similar base colours, but the Orly is just a bit darker and the foily shimmer is green instead of silver. The foily particles in the Orly are also bigger. The Orly has a thinner formula and is more sheer, showing three coats here to two of the Gio.
I think that while both are more summer polishes, the icy silver shimmer in the Gio doesn’t make me dislike it on my nails in winter as well. While I love Halley’s Comet to bits and pieces, I cannot wear it in winter; it’s just too summery.
Oh, and the price… over here the Gio is €8 less. 😛
What do you think? A nice find or what? 😉
p.s. And even though they’re different, somebody not into nail polish would just say: “Hey, you’re wearing that mermaid colour again!” which is what happened to me when a friend who’s seen Halley’s Comet on me, saw me wearing No 99 today.
