Black & White Challenge – Day 1

I felt like I was getting into a nail routine of “polish on – polish off”, so I decided to try my hand at this challenge. What pulled me in, is that I won’t have to post a challenge mani daily… this means I can experiment in peace and wear my beloved colourful nails in the mean time.

Here’s my entry for Day 1 –ย Black on White.

This was a true challenge for me. I haven’t done whole-nail stamping in ages. Lesson learned — choose a more opaque black polish. ๐Ÿ˜›

This was three coats of GOSHย Vanilla Ice — a sheer but very sparkly white glass fleck polish. Still VNL at three coats and I usually use this polish as an effect top coat, but decided to try it on its own today. It has these really pretty pastel multicoloured sparkles going for it. ๐Ÿ™‚

I imagine at one coat, this is also a gorgeous French mani topper. Not my style though, so haven’t tried that. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Then I stamped it using one of the older Bundle Monster plates and a random black nail art polish, which was just a bit too sheer for the design to come out crisp.

This was every so slightly too blingy for my taste, so I added a matte top coat, which created an overall satiny wallpaper effect that you can see in the topmost picture. Quite like it now. ๐Ÿ™‚

Estonian Independence Day

The 24th of February is the Estonian Independence ย Day and like last year, I decided to do my nails in the colours of the Estonian tricolour — blue, black and white.

I painted my nails with Alessandro’sย Turquoise Ocean — a bright blue creme with an amazing one-to-two coat formula. Then I added an abstract flower stamp and a black rhinestone on my ring fingers and thumbs.

By the way,ย Turquoiseย Oceanย was my first nail polish in about four years, and when I bought it just a year and a half ago, it was the starting point of my by now nearly 300-polish-collection…

Here’s the first nail picture I took of me wearing it on 30th July 2010:

And here I am wearing it again today. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m going to enjoy my three-day weekend with some Nutella cake, and hope everybody’s having a good one as well! ๐Ÿ™‚

My Concession to Halloween ;)

So, as Halloween is not really celebrated here, I didn’t want to do anything over the top and went with a really subtle design. I hope. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I used one coat of Ciate’s 3 AM Girl — a near black navy creme — for my underwear. Added a coat of Alix Avien No 187 — a gorgeous dark blue jelly with tiny pieces of silver glitter that is sadly discontinued.

Ungh! Trust me, this Alix Avien is very very pretty!

Well, then I went Halloween on it with China Glaze’s Millenniumย  — a silver chrome — and the spiderweb image from one of the old Bundle Monster plates.

Too busy, right? So I added a matte top coat. ๐Ÿ™‚ And voila!

And there you have it.

Happy Halloween! ๐Ÿ™‚

Easter Konads

I had so many ideas about what I wanted to do for Easter. I could not make up my mind, so I ended up doing a whole bunch of them at once. ๐Ÿ˜›

I started out with pastel skittles (and boy, were the pastels difficult to choose as I have so many I love).

Eyeko Pastel, O.P.I Rumple’s Wiggin, Depend No 210, Eyeko Vintage

I’m also wearing the same Depend yellow on my thumb. All are three coats except Rumple’s Wiggin, which is two.

There was never sun today, but after this pic, things got pre-thunderstorm dark, so I appologise for the high ISO grainy nature of the next pics. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

I went to work with two BM plates, Konad m65 and Depend’s White Crackle Effect.

I used White Crackle on my thumb, Alessandro’s Turquoise Ocean for the blue, China Glaze’s Grape Pop for the purple, Konad White for the white and Manhattan No 87D for the darker dusty mint.

Black and Gold Ain’t Spring Colours

But I love the combo anyway! ๐Ÿ˜‰

So, I was thinking that with all the sun lately, I’d reswatch the polishes I’ve worn during winter to do them justice. Then, of course, I figured that if lucky, we have about 80ish days of sunshine ahead and I have nearly 200 polishes and buying more all the time. Um, yeah. So much about that idea.

But I still want to revisit some of my absolute favourites from time to time.

This is Ciate’s Twilight — gold irregular glitter in a black base. I keep on repeating myself, but I love Ciate polishes. The bottle design, the cap, the brush (OMG, the brush) and the formula are all fantastic. If it weren’t for the price tag, I’d go after the entire line.

This is only one coat, btw.

And just to add a little spring to this winter glam of a polish, I stamped it with little flowers using a Bundle Monster plate together with the golden Flormal Nail Art polish.

Pink Wednesday, coming up next!

p.s. Estonian ladies, I just got a call that China Glaze’s Crackle collection is now available at BeautyPro! ๐Ÿ˜€

Polka-Dot-Red

In the endless debate between polka-dot or stripes, I change my mind daily. Today, it’s polka-dots. ๐Ÿ™‚

I started out with two coats of China Glaze’s High Roller — a classic medium jelly-creme.

Then I added white polka-dots using Konad White Special polish and one of the BM plates. This is where things got iffy, as the Konad White bled quite a bit when I added my top coat. I haven’t experienced this often, and I’m gonna blame the fact that my top coat is getting old and quite thick and not so easy to apply. I need to get a new bottle before it ruins any more of my manis.

I added black tips using China Glaze’s Liquid Leather.

I like the idea. I didn’t like how messy my execution was. So I only wore this for half a day.

However, I do want to try this again one of these days. ๐Ÿ™‚

Spring Roses

I’m feeling mellow. ๐Ÿ™‚

This is two coats of the beautiful Make Up Store Maria — a warm putty green creme.

I stamped this little beauty with Barry M Vivid Purple — a medium purple shimmer — and Alessandro No 184 — a red shimmer. Both opaque one-coaters that are excellent for stamping. ๐Ÿ™‚ I used a rose image from one of the BM plates.

I’m greatly enjoying this one. ๐Ÿ™‚
