Black&White Recap

It was my first challenge and such a fun experience that I definitely plan to keep my eyes open for future opportunities. 🙂

So, once more, the ten manis I did for the Black and White Challenge.

Black & White Challenge – Day 10

I decided to try and go out with a bang for the final day of this challenge. 🙂 So I did something I have never done before — freehand nail art. And to make it even more complicated as I don’t own any nail art brushes, I used a toothpick. :p

Here’s my entry for Day 1o – Black and White.

I painted my nails with two coats of China Glaze’s Pelican Gray — a light gray with a hidden shimmer and then went to town using little wooden toothpicks. I used Alix Avien No 60 — a white creme — and Nubar’s Stronghold — a dark gray creme — for the roses. And then a toothpick dipped into China Glaze’s Liquid Leather — a black creme — for the leaves.

This was my first time trying roses as well, so I hope they’re recognisable as ones even despite the grayscale colour scheme. I’m really excited to try them with colours this spring as well as they weren’t nearly as difficult as I expected. 🙂

This was an awesome challenge to participate in and I’m happy I did. 😀 Time to bid adieu though and move back to colours for the coming spring/summer.

Black & White Challenge – Day 9

I hate watermarbling. There, I’ve said it. And this day of the challenge filled me with trepidation as I’ve only once tried it before. Unsuprisingly, it didn’t turn out that good. 😛 So, again, for a moment I thought I wouldn’t post and just skip this day of the challenge. But then again, if I already went through the effort… and why ruin my perfect track record with the challenge?

Here’s my entry for Day 9 – Watermarble.

This was Alix Avein No 60 for underwear, then I did a mix of the white  and China Glaze’s Liquid Leather and Orly’s Fresh for the watermarble. Royally messed up my pinkie too… which is why you won’t see it again. 😉 A matte top coat on top. 🙂

Black & White Challenge – Day 8

Almost done! This is quick and dirty as I put this together just when I was running out the door to watch The Hunger Games. 😀 I’m back now and noticed I managed to take only one decent photo… oh well. But the film was worth it! 😉

Here’s my entry for Day 8 – Sponging.

I did my nails with China Glaze’s Liquid Leather and sponged the tips with the Alix Avien white creme No 60 and GOSH’s Vanilla Ice — a sheer white glassfleck polish. In honour of “the girl on fire” I added Nubar’s 2010 on top. 😀

Black & White Challenge – Day 7

From the very beginning of this challenge, I knew what I wanted to do for this day. 🙂

Here’s my entry for Day 7 – Black and White with Glitter.

About a year ago, I bought a jar of loose black holo glitter from Nfu-Oh and I’ve only worn it once since getting it… And I’ve been meaning to try it over white for ages. 🙂 So, I painted my nails with two coats of Alix Avien No 60 — a white creme — and dipped my nails in the jar.

This was a holy mess to clean up with glitter  everywhere, but it looks fabulous in person with the black on white and the sudden pops of colour when the light hits it.  ♥

Black & White Challenge – Day 6

I’ve been really getting back into teal and blue lately, so for this mani of the challenge, I chose an old favourite.

Here’s my entry for Day 6 – Colour Base with White.

This was two coats of Snowcrystal No 446 — a beautiful blue-side teal shimmer with slightly bigger teal sparkle pieces. I seem to recall that this polish was a dupe for OPI’s Yodel Me On My Cell…

The colour is beautiful and it’s been way over a year since I last wore it, so it seems to me it was high time to revisit this pretty. 🙂 For the white I added Depend’s White Crackle Effect. I still consider Depend crackle polishes to be the best I’ve tried and as an added bonus they’re also the cheapest with the largest collection of colours available. 😀

Yay! Just four entries to go until completion of this challenge. 🙂

Black & White Challenge – Day 5

This was incredibly tough for me. I don’t even know why and for a moment there I even debated not posting a look for this day of the challenge. But I don’t want to give in that easily. 😉

Here’s my entry for Day 5 – Coloured Base with Black.

I painted my nails with the utterly gorgeous Orly Emberstone (this was my third time wearing this polish, which is a Big Deal).

The orange and pink sparkles! 😀 There’s really nothing I don’t love about this polish.

Then, I taped my nails and added French tips using China Glaze’s Liquid Leather. Side note — I need a better black creme. The two coats here made  ripping off the tape messy and it bled. Hence my apprehension about posting this.

Then I added a matte top coat, which made Emberstone look even more interesting for me. 🙂

I do hope the next day will prove easier, though! 😉
