The Two Reincarnations of a NYE Mani

First of all: happy new year all! ๐Ÿ˜€ Secondly, my main resolution that relates to my online activities is definitely to try to update my blog more often. I mean, I still do my nails with alarming frequency… no reason why I shouldn’t upload the pics.

When I was over at my mum’s for Christmas, she went about reading predictions and horoscopes for 2013 (she’s into things like that ๐Ÿ™‚ ) and while I knew nothing about the lucky colours for the brand new 2013 before…

I remembered my mum saying that combinations of purple and silver were the luckiest thing. So that’s what I went with for my NYE mani.

I did my nails with the perfect purple creme of China Glaze’s Grape Pop (still a favourite!) and sponged on an old purple-y multicoloured glitter polish and my ring finger with the accent of Orly Out of This World complete with silver studs.

I adored this mani and wore it for three days. And then yesterday decided to update it keeping the accent finger. I love the studs!

I used an old favourite here as well — China Glaze Grape Juice and kept the purple theme.

I adore Grape Juice, but I’m sadly now out of it. Maybe enough left for an accent nail or two in the bottle, but no full manis with it anymore. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

So, which do you like more? ๐Ÿ™‚

Lilac Stamped

Is it just me or is my blog pink? Seriously. It just changed into pink overnight and despite all my colour settings being blue (and refreshing them etc.) I can’t seem to change it back. What the … WordPress?

That said, I just couldn’t resist one more day of A Lovely Secret. It’s so pretty! So I decided to update it with a zebra stamp using China Glaze 2030. And then a matte top coat. ๐Ÿ™‚

Yup. I’m definitely enjoying how this turned out. There’s just something about the combination of these pale cool colours and matte+chrome.

I’m pretty sure I’m gonna have a hard time taking this off!

Midsummer near Mediaeval monastery ruins.

Here’s another one that goes in the list of can’t-believe-I-haven’t-worn-this-before. I saw Essence A Lovely Secret in a blog once upon a time and immediately needed it. Luckily, I managed to pick it up this summer…

And then it didn’t impress me in the bottle that much.

A mistake!

It is entirely awesome on the nails. Something between a periwinkle blue and lilac (which are the most flattering shades I can think of on me) with this awesome pink shimmer and darker purple shimmer.

I couldn’t catch the pink shimmer in the pictures, but it’s totally there. ๐Ÿ™‚ And the name is so accurate — from farther away it looks like a beautiful lilac and then up close you see all the secret shimmer.

Awesome. ๐Ÿ™‚

Here’s one of my favourite abandoned buildings in the old town.

Friday Glitter!

It’s the weekend! ๐Ÿ™‚ And I still have a week left of my holiday before going back to work. It’s cold, but the sun is out… so that means glitter!

China Glaze Liquid Crystal is the only polish I picked up from the Prismatics in spring. And I really like it! The subtle shift in the base colours from teal to lilac and the abundance of holo glitter make it awesome.

As I said, it’s very very pretty, but as I’m not a huge glitter fan in general, I’m not surprised it took me so long to finally wear it. ๐Ÿ˜› I mean, I still have more than half of my Sally Hansen Gem Crushes I’ve yet to try…

Today’s picture comes for spring in Tallinn.

Lilac Dreams Comparision

Pale lilacs, lavenders and periwinkles are among the prettiest nail polish colours I can think of… And to my horror I realised that the SpaRitual polishes I bought ages ago were still in my untrieds. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

The first one I tried out on a dreary rainy summer day was SpaRitual’s Lucid.

Ungh. Isn’t it pretty? This is a pale very cool lilac with a strong hint of grey.

I also wanted to compare this to some other favourites of mine…

Models Own Beth’s Blue – SpaRitual Lucid – American Apparel L’Esprit – OPI Rumples Wiggin’.

As you can see, Lucid is basically a love child of Beth’s Blue and L’Esprit… though just a bit paler and the formula is sheerer requiring 2-3 coats to be opaque. It’s a very nice and easily controlled formula though!

Suffice to say, this joins my hall of faves. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Day 31: Repeat of Favourite and Done!

I am done. I actually managed to complete this challenge (in 2.5 months, but still). Nobody’s more surprised than me. ๐Ÿ˜‰

For my repeat mani, I decided on Day 14: Flowers.

It’s nicely in the middle of the challenge and, besides that, one of the few freehand techniques I feel competent doing.

I painted my nails with American Apparel’s L’Esprit. For some reason these sort of pastel lilacs areย the most flattering nail polish shade on me, but I cannotย wear lilac at all as it completely washes me out and clashes with my general skin tone and hair. ๐Ÿ˜›

After that, I proceeded to paint freehand roses with a toothpick using Sally Hansen X-treme Wear Mellow Yellow, Nubar Milk Chocolate, Orly Fresh and SpaRitual Yes, I Can!

I added a top coat too, as I didn’t bother to use one before the roses…

…but to be honest, I prefer the pre-topcoat textured version.

And there you have it! All 31 tasks done. If you wish to check out what I did, just click the “Challenges” tag above or the 31-days tag in the post. ๐Ÿ˜€

Ooooh, off to try my untrieds soon! Can’t wait!

June Haul

Ooooh! Finally a non-challenge post. ๐Ÿ˜€ So… here are the polishes I picked up in June (even despite my polish-buying slump ๐Ÿ˜› ).

I have no idea when I’ll have the time to wear these though… my untrieds pile is nearing 50 by now. o_0
