Autumn in the Nude

Remember early summer? When The Hunger Games collection came out from China Glaze?

One of the polishes was the beautiful nude with a kick Fast Track (which was actually my number one must have from the collection).

I never felt it as a spring/summer polish though… something to do with the gold shimmer, I think.

So here it is in autumn. A welcome break from all the vampies I’ve been wearing lately as well. 😉

This one absolutely lived up to my expectations. 🙂

Nude Nail Art

For some reason, often my first instinct is to do free-hand nail art on a nude-coloured base. I really don’t know why.

Because I’m not even sure I like the effect. That is scribbles on a bare nail. 😛

Still. I seem to have done it again for the weekend.

I first started off my painting my nails with three coats of Alessandro Peaches & CreamHate the formula, but it is the most accurate mannequin hands polish for me in my collection. (I have no idea why I have so many nudes as I really don’t like them…)

And then I used Essie Geranium, Essence Wake Up!, Essence Sundancer and Nubar Milk Chocolate to paint some flowers on the base.

Voila! What are you wearing to welcome in autumn with this weekend? 🙂 And don’t forget to check out the foods! 😉

Pretty? Ugly? Like or Not?

This is an older LCN polish I found a while ago. It was a lonely bottle with a slightly different design among the newer ones and I thought it looked really interesting.

Definitely unlike anything else I own.

This has no numbers, names, nothing on it… so I have no idea what to call it. 😛 Basically, it’s a dirty apricot colour with tons of subtle lilac and pink shimmer.

As I said, it’s really  interesting and I’m pretty sure if I were to see it on a blog I’d go as gaga over it as I did in the store.

But I think I like it more in theory than in practice. I like the idea of it. I like how it looks in the close ups or when I stare at my nails really closely.

But on a regular day, the shimmer isn’t just that visible and the overall look isn’t ugly… it’s just plain. It’s even demure, maybe.

Basically. I don’t think it’s a really pretty polish, nor is it an ugly colour… I guess it’s so in-between that even my opinion of it is in-between.

Which makes no sense whatsoever.

Maybe it’s just the wrong season or mood for it.

June Haul

Ooooh! Finally a non-challenge post. 😀 So… here are the polishes I picked up in June (even despite my polish-buying slump 😛 ).

I have no idea when I’ll have the time to wear these though… my untrieds pile is nearing 50 by now. o_0

Teeez Free and Cool, Catrice Dirty Berry and Genius in a Bottle

LCN (unnamed/numbered), Look by Bipa Special Effect Metallic Holographic, Essence Wake Up! and A Lovely Secret

China Glaze Stone Cold, Fast Track, Liquid Crystal and Glam-More

China Glaze I’m With the Lifeguard, Sun-Kissed, Surfin’ for Boys, Flirty Tankini, Love’s a Beach

Whooh! So, what where your favourite purchases for June?

p.s. My second Mika show and still as awesome as I remembered! My feet still hurt from all that jumping yesterday. 😀

Day 22: Inspired by a Song

Ok, so it’s supposedly summer, and I wanted to do something summery. 🙂 So I allowed myself to be inspired by one of my favourite Beatles songs

I still wanted to keep it kinda low key (instead of psychedelic) so I started with a sort of blank canvas.

This is GOSH Miss Sweety, which is a gorgeous peachy nude and I always avoid it because I think peachy nudes don’t suit me… until I put it on for a layering or something and am reminded of how much I love it.

And then there’s a moment of regret I’m not wearing it on its own.

I went on to stamp red strawberries using China Glaze Hey Sailor and an older BM plate.

And then finally used my trusty toothpick method to add leaves and dots in Sinful Colors Happy Ending and Colorama Redcurrant Jelly to make the strawberries look more like… well, strawberries, instead of random red blobs of colour.

And there you go! I’m quite liking this one. 🙂

Day 16: Tribal Print

This part of the challenge gave me an anxiety attack already in advance. I know I don’t have any image plates with patterns I could use, so I knew this would mean freehand.

Eeek. Me+freehand does not equal a good combo.

In the end, I decided to keep it as subtle as possible while borrowing sorta tribal elements.

I painted my nails using the gorgeous and unique putty green that is Make Up Store Maria. Then I added uneven peachy-nude stripes using a toothpick
(again) and GOSH Miss Sweety. I painted on a zig-zag pattern using a black nail art polish from Flormal and then finally, added pea-soup green dots using American Apparel MacArthur Park.

It’s busy and subtle at the same time, and despite being a hot mess I kinda like it. 😀

My Perfect Nude

After a search spanning years… I’ve found it. My perfect nude. Unsurprisingly it comes from Essie and it’s called Cafe Forgot.

I love everything about from the perfect application to the sheer pinkish beige colour with tiny silver shimmer. I imagine this would look great as a French topper, but I used three coats to get it to almost opaque.

It looks squishy and awesome and gives me the best mannequin hands. 🙂 I’m not often in the mood for something this subtle on my nails, but I am so glad my search is over. Enough of the near-matches that clash with my skintone and I’ve never worn again. Cafe Forgot is here to stay. 😀

I am now going on lock-down. Or hyperdrive. Or something. I have a week to finish my Master’s thesis and I’m slightly insane atm. 😉

Luckily, I have a few polish-posts still in the queue, but I don’t foresee much polish-changing until I’m done and can breathe again.
