Instagraphy. Or Something

It’s the last month of summer (the weather has already acquired an autumny chill…) so I thought that until September, I’d post my favourite Insta-moments of Estonian summer with each of my nail posts.

I appologise to those of you who already follow me on Instagram (@kmlv) or Twitter (MLVanities) as you’ve probably seen these before. 🙂

So, starting from tomorrow, it’s summer favourites from Estonia, right now, let’s get my June-July trip to Austria out of the way. 😉

Hi! 🙂

Multichromes and a Little Bit of Fashion

Hi there. My name is … and I’m a nail polish addict. I especially love multichromes and holographic polishes, but who doesn’t? 😉

So I was really excited when I spotted a “special effect” topper from Look by BIPA in a store in Austria. It kinda looked like it belonged to the legendary Orly Cosmic FX collection only even more complex.

It’s called Metallic Hollogram (yes, it says “hollogram”) and it basically looks like tons of green, teal, blue, plum, purple foil particles and microglitter with the overall look of switching between cool green and plum purple.

This is a stunner! And super sparkly to boot. I only wish that companies would understand what holographic means with polishes… I mean this is very multicoloured and definitely metallic, but it’s not a holo polish by any stretch of the word.

There was no sun, so I took another pic in artificial light to show off the sparklies. 😀 The light makes it look warmer than it ever is, the overall effect of the polish is consistently that of a cool shade. 😉

BTW. Here’s me. I’ve never been a shorts kind of girl… preferring dresses and skirts, but for some reason my most worn item of clothing this summer has been a pair of denim shorts. Both in the heatwaves and the cool weather of late. 🙂

I guess I’m being converted to pants. 😛 Question time! What’s your favourite item of clothing this summer?

June Haul

Ooooh! Finally a non-challenge post. 😀 So… here are the polishes I picked up in June (even despite my polish-buying slump 😛 ).

I have no idea when I’ll have the time to wear these though… my untrieds pile is nearing 50 by now. o_0

p.s. My second Mika show and still as awesome as I remembered! My feet still hurt from all that jumping yesterday. 😀

“Gonne Fishin’!”

Or, in my case – shopping. 😉 I’m off to Vienna for a week and have left my darling to defend my polishes while away.

Can’t wait to check out all the Essence and Catrice polish stands! 😉 MLV.

Day 15: Delicate Print

Here’s another one where I knew even before the challenge what I wanted to do. I’ve been wanting to do this colour/pattern combo for ages and the delicate print task finally gave me the opportunity.

This is two coats of Alix Avien No 60 — the first polish ever I have to get a second bottle of because I’m running out (I blame the black and white challenge 😉 ).

I stamped this using Barry M Cobalt Blue and one of my favourite Konad plates.

Ooh, sweet china. 😀 And I’m half-way through the challenge now. 😀 😀

In other news, I’ve been running injury free for a few weeks now (also did a race last weekend) so I’m starting a half marathon training plan next week. Also defending my Master’s next week. Busy week.

Love Those Ugly/Pretty Things

Today, I have a polish and a story. 🙂 (I guess I feel like writing longer things on the blog since I’m procrastinating from writing my thesis.)

First. The polish. One Week’s No 32, which I thought would be a slightly darker version of American Apparel’s Trench Coat. Well, it dries darker on the nail than it looks in the bottle, so it’s not that.

What it is still awesome. You know the colour, right? The slightly greenish brown that makes you think of … 😉 It’s not a pretty colour, and not for everyone, but that’s what I like about it.

Two coats, but could have gotten away with one.

Now, for the story. There’s this place in Tallinn’s Old Town. I can’t even call it a bar or a pub. It’s a basement. Centuries old basement with limestone walls and sparse beat up real wood furniture. With an equally beat up bar with old-school punkish bartenders you know by name. The choice of liquid is beer from the tap, hard cider from the tap and the only cocktails they know are screwdrivers and rum and coke.

Get any sort of picture?

It’s the place where you go when everything else is closed for the night as it’s always open til morning. There are punks and Goths and nowadays a ton of early twenties hipster crowd. It’s the only bar in Tallinn where you can still smoke indoors. The desks are bolted to the stone floor with heavy iron chains.

It’s packing at around 2-3 am and you always make new friends-for-the-night there.

Sometimes they have film-nights in the back room showing weird 70s  cult stuff. I’ve seen Rosemary’s Baby and Foxy Brown and way more obscure old sexploitation movies there…

It opens when the bartenders wake up at around 3-4 in the afternoon. And then it’s empty. And regulars get pots of all kinds of tea or coffee for free. With mismatched and chipped mugs. It’s dark and dingy without windows and a strong Medieaval basement feel (which it is, actually) and an awesome place to sit and chat quietly. (In the afternoon, that is.)

And you have to know where the bar is. ’cause there aren’t any signs. Just stairs and a door leading underground on a random corner in the Old Town.

This is where I like to meet up with my sister and her crowd:

I’ve spent countless hours drinking pot after pot of oolong or rooibos and chatting there during the day. And drinking the same (not so good) hard cider during the night.

Any favourite bars for you? 🙂

(I guess I felt like story time, since I’ve been working like crazy for a few months and haven’t been able to go out…)

I’m Back! And Outta Control

So, I’ve arrived back to home sweet home. 🙂 I’ve done a lot of sightseeing, relaxing and some shopping. And not nail polish shopping if you’d believe it.

I still have to sort through most of my vacation photos, including the awesomely long-lasting mani I did for it (wore it for eight days without chipping) and some other stuff.

So, meanwhile, a mani I did right before leaving — Teeez’s Outta Control, which the most amazing grape purple holo. The application of this was totally in control as it applied like butter in two easy coats.

This is an utterly amazing polish — more red toned in real life, though — and if you have any chance of getting it, I totally recommend it.

And while I sort through everything else, here are some of my favourite vacation pics as well:

And there you have it! 😀

I’m desperately trying to play catch up with blog posts, so if there’s a particularly interesting mani you’d like to share, please do so in the comments.
