Magnetic Polish

I filed down my nails. 🙂 I like it. Which of course also meant a dark colour!

I located a Golden Rose Magnetic polish in No 9 that I’d forgot I had in one of my drawers. It’s a gorgeous blackened teal. 🙂

Unfortunately I got impatient with the magnet, so the effect is barely there on my ring finger… but I still like the polish.

Though I do have to admit that despite trying a couple, I still don’t get the popularity of magnetic polishes. I guess they’re just not my thing.

Magnetic Charcoal

Thanks to one of my readers, Leili, I broke my no-buy for a moment there. She pointed me in the direction of Golden Rose Magnetic polishes after I fell in love with the brand due to my experience with the Mattes. 😀

Now, let me say, I’ve never once been particularly drawn to magnetic polishes. They’ve been around forever and I think the price tag is just a bit too much for the effect. That said, I could get a Golden Rose Magnetic polish (with the magnet) for under 4 euros so I decided to check out what the fuss was about. 😉

I painted my nails with No 112, which without the magnet is a brushstroke-y dark gray or charcoal shimmer. I applied the magnet as directed and then WOW! The polish turned black with a sharp  shimmery silver star in the middle.

As you can see from the pictures, that didn’t last. 😦 After a few minutes, all the nails had faded into more abstract squiggles with less contrast between the shades of gray.

Now, don’t get me wrong… I still like it. 😀 My nails look interesting, which is always a good thing.

I’m just wondering if this is what happens with all the magnetic polishes — that the sharpness of the design goes away? Or is it something to do with my application?

Anyhow. Final verdict — I think I get now why magnetic polishes took a lot of people by storm and I’m happy that I picked up a couple to experiment with. However, I’m equally glad that I didn’t get them for the price the major brands attached to them when they originally entered the market (and when you had to buy the magnet separately.)

p.s. This is weird. I’m even wearing “black”  on a non black-and-white challenge day. 😛
